  5. Dena Register, Ph.D., MT-BC is an associate professor of music therapy at the University of Kansas. Her primary research interests include music therapy in early intervention and literacy skill development. Dr. Register has developed several music-based literacy programs, including the Topeka C.A.R.E.S. (Creating Access to Reading Excellence Success) Early Reading First program, funded by the Federal Department of Education. She is a co-author of The Sounds of Emerging Literacy:  Music-Based Applications to Facilitate Pre-Reading and Writing Skills in Early Intervention. Additional research areas and consulting include work with early childhood educators on incorporating music in their classrooms, as well as helping families use music to structure positive interaction and reinforce academic skills. Dr. Register was awarded a Council for International Exchange of Scholars Fulbright Scholar grant in 2009 in order teach and conduct research at Mahihol University, Bangkok, Thailand. She continues her work in Thailand as a program consultant for curriculum, clinical training and research mentorship. As the Regulatory Affairs Advisor for the Certification Board for Music Therapists, she works with states across the country on obtaining state recognition of music therapy.

Petra Kern, Ph.D., MT-DMtG, MT-BC, MTA is the owner of the California-based company Music Therapy Consulting and online online professor of music therapy at Marylhurst University and the University of Louisville. Dr. Kern has been affiliated with the Frank Porter Graham Child Devolvement Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill over 11 years, where she conducted her award-winning research related to interventions for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her consultative work includes global services to clients who are interested in enhancing the lives of young children and their families through music by advancing knowledge, improving practice, and creating a stimulating environment for learning and development. Dr. Kern is the editor of the early childhood online magazine imagine, has published over 30 articles, and co-edited the book Early Childhood Music Therapy and Autism Spectrum Disorders: Developing Potential in Young Children and Their Families. She is an active international speaker, serves on various boards and committees and is the recipient of the AMTA national service award. As the immediate Past President of the World Federation of Music Therapy, she supports the development of music therapy worldwide.

Darcy Walworth, PhD, MT-BC is the Director of Music Therapy at the University of Louisville. Dr. Walworth has co-authored and contributed chapters to medical music therapy, autism, and gerontology books. Her research focus areas include neonatal and early childhood developmental music therapy interventions, procedural support, and music therapy interventions for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Walworth's research has been published in the Journal of Music Therapy, Journal of Pediatric Nursing, Pediatric Nursing Journal, and Journal of Neonatal Nursing. She is the recipient of the South Eastern Region AMTA Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Research and has presented at numerous national and international venues. She is the past chair of the board of directors for the Certification Board for Music Therapists and currently serves as chair of the CBMT Board Development Committee and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Music Therapy.
